Die erste Auflage dieser Chronik der IHK Cottbus erschien im Jahr 2001 aus Anlass des 150jährigen Kammer-Jubiläums. Für die vorliegende Neuausgabe als E-Book wurde sie an mehreren Stellen erweitert und vertieft.

Seit Erscheinen der ersten Auflage hat sich in der IHK Cottbus selbst wie auch in der wirtschaftlichen und politischen Entwicklung Südbrandenburgs Vieles getan. Die aktualisierte Neuausgabe der Chronik enthält darum zusätzlich einen Überblick über die wichtigsten Ereignisse und Entwicklungen der Jahre 2002 bis 2013.

In diesen Zeitraum fällt beispielsweise die Erweiterung des Geschäftsstellennetzes der IHK Cottbus im Zeichen einer verstärkten Regionalisierung. Innerhalb der Kammer selbst gab es organisatorische und personelle Veränderungen, sowohl im Ehren- als auch im Hauptamt.

Durch verstärkte Nutzung des Internets und ein neues Kommunikationskonzept unter dem Slogan "IHK Cottbus :besser für alle" intensivierte die IHK Cottbus den Kontakt zu den Unternehmen. Desgleichen verstärkte die Kammer in diesem Zeitraum ihre politische Präsenz, etwa durch aktives Eintreten für Verbesserungen der Infrastruktur von Straßen, Schienen, Wasserwegen und nicht zuletzt beim Datenverkehr.

Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt der Kammerarbeit galt und gilt den Zukunftsthemen Bildung und Fachkräftesicherung.

Dies sind nur einige Fakten und Ereignisse, die in den vergangen zwölf Jahren die Aktivitäten der IHK Cottbus geprägt haben. Zahlreiche andere finden in der vorliegenden Chronik die gebührende Erwähnung, wobei stets auch das wirtschaftliche und politische Umfeld zur Sprache kommt, in dem die IHK Cottbus in der jüngsten Vergangenheit agierte.

Diese Chronik versteht sich somit auch als Beitrag zur kritischen Auseinandersetzung mit der wechselvollen Geschichte der IHK Cottbus innerhalb der Region Südbrandenburg.
